THQ was an American-based game developer and publisher. The company went bankrupt on January 23rd, 2013.
History
Founded in 1989, the company was a video game developer. It had no major recognition until 2000. Later in that year, THQ acquired Volition, Inc and 16 other studios. The company acquired more and more development studios up until 2010, where it reported its first financial losses.
uDraw drawing tablet was introduced by THQ in 2011, yet it failed financially putting THQ into a dire situation.
In December 2012 the company went bankrupt and acquired by Nordic Games in June 2014.
Operations
The majority of games published by THQ were movie-licensed titles. However, after the year 2005, THQ put more focus on original IPs such as Saints Row, Red Faction, and Metro.
One of the major directions of the company's platform publishing policy was Wii as THQ released numerous games as well as accessories for the Wii (including the uDraw mentioned above).
There was no preference in a particular genre, nor art style in THQ-published titles.
