Techland is a Polish video game developer based in Ostrów Wielkopolski. It specializes in first-person shooters and is best known for Call of Juarez, Dying Light, and Dead Island series. For the first six years since Techland's debut project, 2000 action game Crime Cities, the company has been developing Windows-only games in various genres, often releasing several games in one year.
A breakthrough project for the company was 2006 western-themed first-person shooter Call of Juarez. The game was met with mostly favorable reviews and sold well in Europe. The game grabbed the attention of Ubisoft which released four more games in the franchise all of which were developed by Techland. In 2011 the first game in Dead Island series came out. The game was a survival horror action-RPG which was generally well-received and spawned a stand-alone expansion pack and a spin-off with a sequel currently in development as for 2018. The other notable release from the company was an open-world first-person survival horror action-adventure video game Dying Light which sequel is also currently in development.
