Double Fine Productions is an American-based video game developer.
History
The company was founded in 2000 by Tim Schafer after his leave from LucasArts. Schafer left LucasArts because of its shift from adventure titles to more action-oriented ones. Most of Double Fine's team consisted from the developers of critically acclaimed, yet financially failed Grim Fandango that were dissatisfied with the LucasArts shift in the game development direction.
The studio's first title was Psychonauts that is considered a video game classic. This game brought major popularity to Double Fine.
Operations
As a rather young studio, Double Fine Productions does not have a lot of titles behind its back. However, every released game of the studio is of high quality and features distinct art and narrative styles. While the games by Double Fine explore serious themes, a high degree of humor is used in every title.
The studios' first major released game was Psychonauts followed by Brutal Legend, Broken Age, Hack 'n' Slash, and Grim Fandango Remastered.
