Codemasters is a British-based video game developer and publisher.
History
Founded in 1986 by the Darling brothers, the company began developing games for ZX Spectrum. The studio later switched on to other computer platforms, such as Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, and Amstrad CPC. Codemasters is the studio behind a popular NES cheat system named Game Genie.
In 1998, Codemasters released the first Colin Mcrae Rally game which was met with critical acclaim. Later that year Codemasters Racing Studio was established. The company became a racing-focused one.
Operations
Up until 1998, Codemasters developed puzzle and simulation titles for home consoles and personal computers. After that year, the company started its collaboration with Colin McRae with the creation of the Colin McRae Rally series.
Codemasters focuses on arcade driving simulation aspect in its titles. The players can adjust the difficulty of the games the way they see fit. The studio titles carefully replicate all aspects of modern-day rally events.
