Bungie, Inc. is an American video game developer located in Bellevue, Washington, United States. For the first 10 years, the company has mostly been developing games for Mac OS. The studio created two successful series for the system: Myth and Marathon. In 1999 Bungie announced their next project, a third-person shooter for Mac and Windows called Halo: Combat Evolved. While the game was in developed, Microsoft acquired the company. The game became third person shooter and was released in 2001 as an exclusive for original Xbox. Halo: Combat Evolved became a huge hit, and was considered to be Xbox’s killer app. It sold 4.2 million compiles in the United States alone, gained a cult following and spawned a long-running media franchise that became a flagship for Xbox consoles. Bungie developed 4 more Halo games, the last of which was Halo: Reach released in 2010. After that, the company focused on their new multiplatform game series Destiny.
